In the beginning of the 20th century, extracts were never in spray form because they would clutter the puffer (at that time the perfume was not being filtered and the high concentration of natural ingredients in the bottle would clutter in the puffer preventing it from spraying).To solve this practical problem, women started to mix alcohol with the essential oils so that the diluted concentration was able to go through the puffer.
Today the technical problem doesn’t exist anymore since the perfumes are filtered and all the deposits are removed after the maceration, prior to getting into the bottle.
